Retake of IAOM-US Examination

Passing Scores

Passing scores for each module are calculated as follows:

1. Written Examination: 65%
   
   
2. Practical Examination: 70%
   
   
3. Overall score (written score + practical score multiplied by 2): 70%

Failure to obtain at least 65% on the written examination AND at least 70% on the practical examination AND at least 70% on the overall score will result in failure. In the case of a passing score on one part of the examination (e.g. the practical examination) and a failure score on the other part of the examination (e.g. written examination), with an overall score > 70%, the individual must retake the part that he/she failed (in this case the written examination). The re-examination score represents the final score. Scores are sent out within 6 weeks of taking an examination.

In the case of an overall score of <70%, both the written and practical examinations must be retaken.

Where and when can the examination be retaken in case of failure?

1. the written examination can be retaken:
   
   
   1. at a scheduled IAOM-US certification date. The individual should schedule the retake examination with the IAOM-US office at 1-866-426-6101 at least four weeks prior to the date of the examination.
      
      
   2. at an ScD contact session. The individual must schedule the retake examination with the IAOM-US office at 1-866-426-6101 at least four weeks prior to the date of the examination.
      
      
   3. at an appropriate IAOM-US location, such as during an IAOM-US course (for example, if an IAOM-US course is taking place in Salt Lake City November 2-4, the written examination can be retaken on one of those days). A suitable testing environment is mandatory (private room available for a minimum of three hours) and agreement of course faculty is needed. The individual must schedule the retake examination with the IAOM-US office at 1-866-426-6101 at least six weeks before the date of the examination to ensure proper environment is arranged.
2. the practical examination must be retaken only during scheduled IAOM-US certification dates. The individual can schedule the retake examination with the IAOM-US office at 1-866-426-6101 at least four weeks prior to the date of the examination.

How many times can an examination be retaken?

1. ScD students may retake each examination only once to meet the requirements as their qualifying examination. They may retake more times, but it will not suffice for qualifying examination.
   
   
2. ScD students enrolled in the ScD program at TTUHSC for the sole purpose of pursuing the Fellowship in Manual Therapy may retake the examinations as many times as needed for successful completion.
   
   
3. Non-ScD students may retake the examinations as many times as needed for successful completion.
   
   

Fee

Retake of the examination is 1/2 price of the modular original price (e.g. if modular exam is $200, retake of the full examination is $100; retaking only the written examination OR the practical examination is $50).
